EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Five forfeited matches hurt the Tigers on Jan. 21 when they hosted Center in a Missouri River Valley Conference West Division boys wrestling dual. The Yellowjackets grabbed an 18-0 lead en route to downing the Tigers 42- 33. The Yellowjackets picked up forfeit wins in the 103-, 120-, 160-, 220- and 285-pound weight classes. Junior Trenton Moore opened for the Tigers, notching a 9-3 decision over Leisic Gunnels at 113. Excelsior Springs junior Landen Davis, who won his 100th career high school match earlier this season, came back after nearly four weeks away from competition by securing a third-period fall over Elijah Gunnels at 126. Senior Gunner Zirjacks followed that, and a double-forfeit at 132, by taking care of Alex Hillard at 138 with a third-period pin. Junior Ayden Dolt kept the momentum in Excelsior Springs’ corner by dominating Reece Damiano with a first-period fall at 145. Senior Clinton McCauley then picked up a forfeit win at 152 pounds.
