Fourth-quarter run propels Orrick hoopsters to victory
About midway through the fourth quarter, some of those fans watching Orrick face Norborne Jan. 5 in varsity boys basketball might have been expecting a nail-biting finish.
Well, if they were, they didn’t get one.
Leading 31-26, Orrick staged a 15-0 run during the final 5 minutes, 11 seconds to secure a 46-26 home win. “I feel like we put a lot more effort in on defense. … The first three quarters were a little rough, shots weren’t falling,” said senior Jaxon Miller, who led all scorers with 16 points and was the lone Bearcat in double figures.
Bearcats coach Chris Harbison agreed.
“Life’s a lot easier when you’re getting open layups – and runouts. … It certainly helps fuel (the) offense whenever shots are falling in the half-court,” Harbison said.
Orrick 14-10 after one quarter, 23-17 at halftime and 29-22 after three.
Zach Deitch sank two free throws with 5:24 left in the fourth quarter to get Norborne within five before the Bearcats staged their game-ending run.
