Fumbles hurt Tigers in season opener

The Tigers fumbled six times and lost four of those fumbles during their 42-20 loss to Belton Aug. 25 at Tiger Stadium. And two of those fumbles occurred during their first two possessions. Belton used those miscues to jump out to a 21-0 lead.
The Pirates, however, scored their first touchdown without the aid of a turnover. After receiving the opening kickoff, Javon Minor ripped off a 65-yard TD run on their first play from scrimmage.
Excelsior Springs’ first turnover occurred on the Tigers’ first play from scrimmage, when sophomore quarterback Marquez McCant was stripped of the ball. Belton capitalized by staging a quick scoring drive, with Minor providing a 2-yard TD run to help the Pirates take a 14-0 lead. Minor’s 65-yard TD run with 11 minutes, 48 seconds left in the second quarter helped make it 21-0.
