Girls netters prep for fall season at camp

Ananya Carrel and Olivia Deere got in some more offseason prep work last week for Excelsior Springs’ varsity girls tennis season.

Carrel and Deere, who’ll each start their senior year this fall, participated in a high school team camp June 8-12. Most camp sessions, along with sessions for a youth camp that week, took place on the outdoor courts near Excelsior Springs Middle School. The June 9 and 10 sessions got moved indoors because of the heat, boys and girls coach Richie Marsh said.

Overall, the camp went well, agreed Deere and Carrel, who are doubles partners.

“It’s just nice to see a lot of people coming together and working on tennis,” Carrel said June 12.

Carrel and Deere were among roughly 11 high schoolers who attended, Marsh estimated. Some netters who are expected to play during the 2026-27 school year couldn’t attend because of schedule conflicts, he said.
