Holsey, Pyzer place in top six at state youth tourney

Two young Excelsior Springs wrestlers brought back medals from their trip last week to Springfield. Representing the Excelsior Springs Youth Wrestling Club, Celvin Holsey and Zane Pyzer finished third and fifth, respectively, at the Missouri USA Wrestling state folkstyle tournament. The top six finishers in each division received a medal. Holsey and Pyzer were among five Excelsior Springs youngsters who grappled at the March 8-10 competition, held at the Wilson Logistic Arena. Holsey’s run to placing third in the 8-and-under 85-pound division began with a win by a 4-0 decision. After receiving a second-round bye, he dropped his winner’s-bracket quarterfinal match 8-2. Holsey then won by pin and another match 7-0. Holsey’s win by pin in the wrestleback semifinals secured his spot in the third-place match. Holsey finished his run with a 6-0 win. Pyzer dropped his first match en route to taking fifth in the 15-andunder 285 division. After a doublebye, he won by pin in wrestlebacks…
