Last season’s triumphs has Tigers ready to wrestle

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – With the return of three state medalists and a ninth-place finish last season at the Class 2 state tournament, there is excitement in the training room as the Tigers begin another varsity boys wrestling season. Leading the eager group is Rick Schwab, who is in his seventh season at Excelsior Springs and 14th year overall as a head coach. His program enters the season with a mixture of experience and youth. Senior Damon Ashworth is among the experienced grapplers and returning medalists. Ashworth returns from a 46-8 junior campaign, capped by winning a 152-pound state championship. Junior Landon Davis seeks to improve on his fourth-place finish at state at 126 pounds last season. Davis finished the season 44-8. Braxton Rickart rounds out the group of returning medalists, entering his junior year following a 14-6 campaign and sixth-place finish at state at 138.
