Looking back: Excelsior Springs baseball
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Varsity baseball season officially ended for the Tigers Monday.
That night, coach Aaron Holst recognized his players during the baseball program’s annual banquet. Holst handed out awards for Rookie of the Year, given to freshmen Micah Danner and Brayden Lewis; the Tiger Award, given to seniors Matthew Smith and Jalen Soria; and Player of the Year, presented to sophomore Lucas Dillman.
On the field, the season ended May 18 with a Class 4 District 15 Tournament loss to Oak Grove. The Tigers finished 11-21 overall and 3-4 in the Missouri River Valley Conference-West Division.
“I put together a tough schedule to make sure we were battle-tested for the end of the season,” Holst said.
The Tigers played 21 of their 31 games against schools that were Class 5 or Class 6, including Class 5 state champion Willard and Class 6 state champion Liberty.
