JEFFERSON CITY – Two of three Excelsior Springs athletes placed in the top 15 at Class 4 boys state track and field competition. The top eight finishers in each event received medals at the May 27 and 28 competition at Adkins Stadium, held in conjunction with Class 3 and Class 5 competition. Braxton Moffett, who just completed his junior year, finished 13th in the pole vault, clearing 3.51 meters, equal to 11 feet, 6.25 inches. Webb City’s Grayson Smith won the event, clearing 4.72. Mason Wartner, who recently completed his sophomore year, finished 15th in the 3,200-meter run. His time of 10 minutes 31.51 seconds was just over 1:18 slower than that of state champion Jacob Meyers of Festus. Kolt Willis, who just completed his sophomore year, competed in the discus.
