Excelsior Springs is looking to win another district title this season in varsity girls tennis – and some experienced players might help the Tigers nab another district championship plaque. The Tigers return three players with varsity experience, including firstteam all-district selections Shelby Stodden and Malaya Tedesco, both juniors. Megan Riegel, also a junior, is the other returner. “Megan, Shelby and Malaya have come back and have continued to show promise through the first few practices and will more than likely fill out our top three positions in singles play,” coach Richie Marsh said. Overall, however, the Tigers will have to rely on a group of girls who are inexperienced in varsity tennis. They include Laney Smith, a first-year high schooler, who’s looking to fill a starting spot.
