New-look ES boys take to hoops court

Excelsior Springs will have a new look in varsity boys basketball, starting with its coach. Ian Burch takes the helm after spending four seasons as an assistant to Chad Wright, who resigned during the offseason and changed school districts. “The boys have been really accepting of the change, and much of that is due to how Chad Wright did a great job of being graceful about the way he wanted the transfer to go,” Burch said. And having lost most of their offense from their 2022-23 team, the Tigers will look to new players to lead them in scoring. Those expected to step up include three juniors: Jake Zapata, Carson Gholson and Easton Ryan. “Jake, Carson and Easton have the most experience returning for us this season – especially with Jake and Carson – and we will look to them to help lead the way for us this year,” Burch said.
