Respect athletes, coaches, officials this school year

With this weekend marking the start of competition for fall prep sports in Missouri, I have a challenge for the fans reading this: be respectful of the athletes, coaches and officials.For the athletes, this is their time to shine. They’ve worked hard to be prepared for this time of year and deserve your respect. One way to show athletes respect is by understanding that players will make mistakes and it’s the coach’s responsibility to help correct those mistakes. Keep in mind, your favorite players will get the opportunity to learn from playing sports and want to enjoy playing with some of their lifelong friends; therefore, they don’t need to worry about what’s being said about them in the stands or at home.A way to respect coaches is to let them coach. Like the athletes they lead, they’re human and will make mistakes. And like the athletes, they have people to whom they are accountable.Officials will make mistakes, too, and account for their decision...
