Rogers sets ESHS girls javelin record
On April 18, the cliche that records are made to be broken was validated once again.
That day, during the Warrior Relays in Smithville, Kinsley Rogers set the Excelsior Springs High School record in the girls javelin. By throwing 33.1 meters, the first-year high schooler broke the record of 32.89, set in 2018 by Raven Gantt.
“Kinley has a tremendous work ethic and a great desire to be successful in everything that she does,” throwing coach Jeff Meyer said.
It wasn’t Rogers’ first time setting a record. In 2022, she set the Excelsior Springs eighth-grade shot put record.
Rogers’ ability to set the javelin record stems from her knack for picking up on javelin throwing motion fundamentals, according to Meyer.
“Her ability to generate a tremendous amount of power and torque through her core muscles and hips allows her to transfer the explosiveness needed in her throws,” he said.
Meyer expects Rogers to continue improving as she hones aspects of her technique. He looks forward to…
