Rumore keeps looking to top himself on tracks, XC trails

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Tyler Rumore is like other athletes in one sense: Whenever he competes, his goal is to be better than what he was when he competed the last time. “My favorite part of this sport has to be personal records,” Rumore, who runs cross country and track, said. “There are so many miles that I have put in all year trying to get a little bit of a PR (personal record) on race day.” Rumore, a junior at Excelsior Springs High School, admits that every mile he puts in is hard. But if he does not put in those miles during the offseason, then he will not see the results come race day, he said. Rumore saw the results of his offseason road work this fall. As this newspaper reported, he qualified for the Class 4 state cross country meet at Columbia, placing 115th with his time of 18 minutes, 53.9 seconds.
