Rumore shaves off time at Gans Creek
COLUMBIA – Last week at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course, Excelsior Springs junior Tyler Rumore did something for the first time in his high school cross country career: He competed in a Class 4 state championship race.
Rumore entered the 5-kilometer race having run at Gans Creek twice before. His most recent race had been a few weeks earlier, when he recorded a time of 18 minutes, 58.8 seconds. In 2019, he finished in 19:27.7.
At state, Rumore took nearly 5 seconds off his best time on the course, running an 18:53.9 and finishing 115th.
Coming off the starting gun, Rumore paced his way to a 3:24.8 through the first 1,000 meters to put him at 123rd. Over the next 1,000 meters, Rumore slowed down to a 3:42.6 pace and dropped to 132nd. He slowed down even more during the next 1,000 meters with pace of 3:59.1 but gained five spots.
During the final 2,000 meters, Rumore picked up his pace with a 3:58.9 between 3,000 and 4,000 meters. He ran his last 1,000 meters at a 3:48.8 clip.
