The Tigers are back on the links. Excelsior Springs opened its varsity boys golf season March 15 with the Oak Grove Tournament at Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs. Senior Jacob Schmidt led the Excelsior Springs boys, shooting an 82 for the 18-hole round to finish fifth. Other finishers were Landon Biermann with a 91, Tayvion Kennedy with a 98, Elijah Ishmael with a 101 and Zeb McBee with a 105. THE SEASON AHEAD As Excelsior Springs’ top two golfers from 2023, Schmidt and Biermann will help lead the Tigers this season. Schmidt and Biermann look to return to state competition. Schmidt placed in a five-way tie for 54th last season at the Class 3 state tournament, finishing the two-day competition with a 176. “I worked hard last summer on how to manage a golf course and to have a plan every time I go out, and I have set goals to medal in every tournament, including the state tournament, this year,” said Schmidt, who also was an all-conference selection last season.
