EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers finished their varsity baseball season on a losing note.
The season ended Tuesday with a 9-2 defeat Tuesday by Oak Grove at Raytown High School in the Class 4 District 15 Tournament semifinals. Excelsior Springs finished 11-20, ending a streak of four straight seasons of finishing .500 or better, including a 21-9 campaign in 2019. There was no 2020 season because of the COVID pandemic.
The postseason defeat was part of a five-game losing streak that had begun with losses to Pembroke Hill and Willard May 8 and continued the last week of the regular season, when the Tigers fell May 12 at Platte County and May 13 to Belton in their home finale.
Sophomore Colson Moore got the pitching start for the Tigers in their 6-3 non-conference loss to Platte County, allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits. Moore struck out two.
Sophomore Lucas Dillman relieved Moore in the sixth inning, giving up three runs, one earned, on one hit to take the loss.
