Another Excelsior Springs varsity girls soccer season is done. The season ended in the Class 2 District 8 Tournament, held recently in Cameron. The girls’ finale was an 8-0 loss to eventual tournament champion St. Pius X of Kansas City. “We knew coming into this game that St. Pius was going to be tough,” coach Zac Ganzer said. “They are a team loaded with talent and (I) expect to see them make a deep run in the (state) playoffs.” The fifth-seeded Tigers’ loss in the district semifinals followed a 1-0 tournament-opening win over Chillicothe. Bailey Carder, who just finished her junior year, scored the game-winner. Ava Morton provided the assist pass. Brooklyn Sharp recorded the shutout in goal. Lauren Mueller, who graduated recently, teamed up with Ellysa Blessing, Abby Rash and Maya Watkins in defense to help Sharp secure the clean sheet. “This was a gutsy performance in a downpour all game,” Ganzer said.
