Season ends for Tigers at sectional track and field meet

ODESSA – Excelsior Springs’ track and field season is over. The season ended May 22, when no Tigers placed among the top four in their events at the Class 4 Sectional 4 meet at Odessa. The top four finishers advanced from sectionals to the Class 4 state meet, slated for Friday at Adkins Stadium at Jefferson City High School. Freshman Mason Wartner narrowly missed qualifying in the boys 3,200-meter run, finishing fifth with his time of 10 minutes, 30.84 seconds. Harrisonville’s Tommy Baker edged Wartner for the final qualifying spot, finishing in 10:21.71. Wartner also placed seventh in the 1,600 in 4:46.17. In other boys results, Tyler Rumore finished seventh in the 3,200 in 11:09.21. Sophomore Braxton Moffett finished seventh in the boys pole vault, clearing the bar at 10 feet. Senior Ricky Juarez ended his high school career by placing seventh in the javelin with a throw of 126-4. The minimum qualifying throw, secured by Kearney’s Adam Hoffman, was 138-5.
