Sparked by ground game, Tigers pluck Roosters

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers make no secret about their game plan each week: They intend to run the football. Excelsior Springs stuck to that game plan Oct. 23 against visiting Pleasant Hill. And the Tigers ran their way to a 26-6 Missouri River Valley Conference West Division win. Coach Mark Faubion’s option offense pounded the ball for 293 yards on 56 carries. Sophomore quarterback Chance Moreland spent much of the evening reading the defense and giving the football to junior Amani Robinson. “Moreland did a great job of reading the defense and we just kept going at their big guys,” Faubion said. Robinson rushed 31 times for 123 yards and one touchdown. Moreland carried 16 times for 112 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown to start the scoring with 3 minutes, 47 seconds remaining in the first half.
