Stodden, Tedesco among tennis award-winners
On Oct. 25, Excelsior Springs officially concluded its girls tennis season with a banquet at the high school.
The event included the presentation of four awards by coach Richie Marsh: Most Valuable Player, the Hustle Award, Newcomer of the Year and Most Improved Player, as voted on by the team.
Junior Shelby Stodden, the Tigers’ No. 1 singles player and a half of their No. 1 doubles team, received the Most Valuable Player Award. Malaya Tedesco received the Hustle Award.
Laney Smith, a first-year high schooler, received the Newcomer of the Year Award. Smith spent much of her season in the program as the No. 3 singles player and as part of the No. 2 doubles team.
Faith Farmer was named Most Improved Player.
The banquet followed a season in which Stodden and Tedesco won their second consecutive Class 1 District 14 doubles title and the Tigers reached the team district championship dual again. The Tigers, who were seeking a second straight district team title, fell to Carrollton in…
