Sometimes, rivals on the playing field can be great friends who come together for a special cause. Such was the case July 21 in Excelsior Springs, when softball alumni from Excelsior Springs and Richmond faced off in a benefit game to help the family of Presley Minnick. Presley Minnick is a 9-year-old girl from Richmond who’s fighting chondroblastic osteosarcoma, a rare, aggressive form of cancer that demands intense treatment. She and her parents, Chad and Erin Minnick, are in Texas at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she’s receiving treatment. “Any time you hear of someone who is in need, you want to do something to help out, and softball is the connection and seemed like the obvious way to support them,” game organizer Angela Williams said. In school softball, the players on the two teams were rivals.
