January 26, 2018 — Excelsior Springs High School hosted the Missouri River Valley Conference wrestling tournament Friday Jan. 12 and Saturday, Jan. 13.The stands were filled with parents and supporters of the Tigers wrestlers.

With the help of their fans, Excelsior Springs was able to dominate on the mats and bring home victories.

Ethan Day took first place overall in the tournament. Damon Ashworth and Hunter Williams took third place. Dane Milsap and Dylan Casey took fourth place in their weight classes.

Excelsior’s Day ended up dominating in the MRVC tournament.

Day won by fall in round one, three and five while receiving a bye in round two and four.

In the semifinal match between Day and Knob Noster, Day won by major decision over Sam Wilhelm and advanced to the first place match.

Day won by technical fall over Oak Grove in the first place match earning first in the 106 weight class and 48.50 team points.

Ashworth received several bye rounds throughout the tournament.

In round two, Ashworth won by fall over Knob Noster but Odessa won by decision in round five over Ashworth.

Ashworth lost by fall against Odessa in the semifinals, placing Ashworth in the third place match. In the third place match, Ashworth won by decision over Logan Claypole from Richmond earning Ashworth a solid third place win in the 120 weight class and 31.00 team points.

Williams also received a handful of bye rounds, leaving him to only wrestle in round one and round five before the semifinals.

In round one Williams won by fall over Grain Valley. Williams lost by decision against Odessa in round five.

In the semifinals, Austin Bowman from Richmond defeated Williams by major decision placing Williams in the third-place match.

Williams dominated the third-place match, winning by fall over Oak Grove, awarding himself a third place win in the 132 weight class and earning 33.00 team points.
