Tigers blazing across soccer pitches as winning streak continues

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers have gotten hot in varsity boys soccer the past few weeks and show no signs of cooling off. With wins over Knob Noster, Truman and Benton of St. Joseph last week and a 2-1 win Tuesday at Oak Grove, the Tigers were 10-2 overall entering Thursday’s road meeting with Smithville. They also were on an eight-game winning streak. Freshman Jacob Zapata had the game-winning goal in Excelsior Springs’ 1-0 Sept. 20 home win over Knob Noster, scoring in the eighth minute off an assist from freshman Kollin Kincaid. The defensive unit of seniors Ethan Edwards, Andrew Armstrong, junior Colby Mueller and freshman Grayson Grove, along with junior goalkeeper Braxton Moffett, helped the Tigers secure the shoutout. Moffett recorded three saves. On Sept. 21, Excelsior Springs edged Truman 2-1 at Tiger Stadium. Zapata scored in the fourth minute on an assist from sophomore Mason Wartner...
