Tigers bounce back after Ray South loss by blanking Ruskin

Excelsior Springs varsity soccer coach Zac Ganzer was confident his boys team would rebound after a 3-2 Oct. 17 road loss to Raytown South. “We didn’t have our best day, but we will get back to work and fine tune some things,” Ganzer said. The Tigers took the opening lead when junior Mason Wartner scored off a pass from senior Carter Pitts. After the Cardinals had knotted it at 1, the Tigers jumped back on top when sophomore Jake Zapata beat Ray South’s keeper on a breakaway opportunity. But the Cardinals took advantage of two Excelsior Springs mistakes and scored the goals they needed for a comeback victory. As this newspaper reported Oct. 21, the loss snapped a five-game winning streak. The Tigers rebounded from the loss Monday with a 4-0 win over Ruskin. The Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division victory put Excelsior Springs at 13-4 overall entering the Tigers’ regular-season finale Wednesday with Oak Park on the road.
