Tigers maul opponents, win four out of five soccer games

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers have been on a hot streak lately in boys soccer. Entering Thursday’s non-conference meeting with visiting Smithville, the club had won four of its last five games, including wins over Warrensburg, Cameron and Knob Noster. Excelsior Springs’ road win over Warrensburg was a 7-0 affair that started with an unassisted goal by senior Rudy DeLeon in the 12th minute. Freshman Christian Van Campen then scored in 27th minute off a pass from DeLeon. The Tigers extended their lead in the 35th minute, when DeLeon picked up his second unassisted goal. He followed that with goals in the 38th, 46th and 50th and 61st minutes to finish with six total goals. Sophomore Carter Pitts, junior Ethan Edwards and sophomore Brendan Blackburn were credited with the assists on three of those goals. “We really worked well off the ball and moved it quickly while in possession,” coach Zac Ganzer said.
