Tigers post 22-point, second quarter, road win over Moberly
MOBERLY – One big quarter propelled Excelsior Springs to victory Sept. 10 in the Tigers’ first game away from home.
Exploding for 22 second-quarter points, the Tigers cruised to a 34-14 win over Moberly. The win put them at 2-1 overall entering Friday’s home meeting with Center in Missouri River Valley Conference West Division action.
The Tigers, however, started scoring during the first quarter. Senior Lukas Shelton gave Excelsior Springs a 6-0 lead with 4:34 remaining by ripping off a 40-yard TD run.
A recovered onside kick led to Excelsior Springs’ next score, a 4-yard TD run by junior quarterback Chance Moreland. Moreland’s two-point conversion run made it 14-0 Tigers with 11:55 left in the second quarter.
