Tigers’ postseason baseball run ends

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers’ quest to claim the Class 4 state baseball title ended May 27 in defeat. After rallying for a 6-5 sectional victory over Savannah May 25 at Excelsior Springs, the Tigers fell 5-2 two nights later at Marshall in the state quarterfinals. They finished 21-19 – the third time in five seasons they have posted a 20-win season. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead against Savanah. Hunter Scoma started Excelsior Springs’ scoring with a first-inning, two-run double down the right-field line, driving in Brendan Blackburn and Lucas Dillman. Starting pitcher Colson Moore held the Savages in check the first three innings. In the fourth, however, Moore yielded back-to-back walks and then a three-run home run.
