Tigers pursue hardware at Class 2 state tournament

Five Excelsior Springs varsity boys wrestlers were looking to be standing on the awards podium at state competition this week. At press time, Wyett Shipman, Cooper Collins, Micah Danner, Ryne Marcum and Hunter Scoma were competing in the Class 2 state tournament. The quintet left Excelsior Springs Tuesday, making a stop at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, where they trained before heading to Columbia, the host city for the six state high school wrestling tournaments — four classes for boys, two for girls. A parade of the state qualifiers was held Wednesday night at Mizzou Arena, the competition site. The tournaments for Classes 1 and 2 boys, and Class 1 girls also began Wednesday. Those tournaments were slated to conclude Thursday.
