Tigers stretch streak in varsity boys soccer
Excelsior Springs is on a hot streak in varsity boys soccer.
Following Monday’s win over visiting Raytown South, the Tigers are 9-5 and on a five-game winning streak season, with two regularseason games left before district competition starts on Oct. 30. That streak included two wins last week: 3-1 Oct. 9 over visiting St. Joseph Central and 1-0 Oct. 11 at North Kansas City.
Senior Mason Wartner started the scoring for Excelsior Springs against St. Joe Central with an unassisted goal in the 12th minute. Wartner’s goal in the 18th minute off an assist by junior Jake Zapata made it 2-0. Less than a minute later, Zapata made it
3-0 by finishing an assist pass from junior Kolin Kincaid.
St. Joe Central scored its goal in the 57th minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Jaxon Hellyer made 10 saves to help secure the win.
Kincaid provided the game-winning goal against Northtown, scoring in 15th minute off an assist pass from Zapata.
