Tigers tally 49 runs in three games; go 2-1

Excelsior Springs piled up the runs last week in varsity softball. In going 2-1, the Tigers scored 49 runs and allowed only 22. After falling 17-4 Sept. 18 to visiting Platte County, they thumped 15-5 Oak Park Sept. 19, also at Miracle Field; and then pounded Grandview 30-0 Sept. 21 at Grandview. The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 first-inning lead against Platte County. But the Pirates quickly took control, scoring a run in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth and three in the top of the fifth. Excelsior Springs scored its final two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Platte County added three runs in the sixth and five in the seventh. Sophomores Kayden Rogers and Josie Casler each had two hits to lead Excelsior Springs offensively. Sophomore pitcher Keira Romazon took the loss, going 2.2 innings. Rogers pitched 4.1 innings of relief. Defensively, the Tigers committed six errors and allowed seven unearned runs. Excelsior Springs had to overcome an early deficit to down…
