Excelsior Springs continues to rebuild in boys and girls cross country, Brian Smarker said following the program’s performance at the Platte County Invitational. “The younger runners are showing a hint of promising successes for the coming years,” Smarker said. The rebuilding Tigers had one boys runner and one girls runner nearly crack the top 50 at the Sept. 15 invitational. Senior Gavin Wilmes was their top boys runner, finishing 51st among 113 runners by running the 3.1-mile race in 21 minutes, 5.6 seconds. Sophomore Silas O’Dell was the No. 2 Excelsior Springs boys runner, finishing 80th in 23:03.1. First-year high schooler William Tade placed 82nd in 23:12.1. Senior Damien McDade rounded out the boys team, taking 104th in 25:18.2. Jules Morton and Chloe Albertson represented Excelsior Springs in the girls race, which featured 67 runners. Morton, a senior, placed 53rd in 27:12.4. Albertson, a junior, placed 63rd in 30:28.1. Platte County won the boys team title. North…
