Wright leads Tigers at Odessa

To borrow from an old hip hop song, all Justin Wright did was win at last week’s Odessa Bulldog Invitational. The Excelsior Springs junior won his three matches at the Jan. 27 boys wrestling tournament – two by fall and one in sudden-death overtime. In doing so, he won the 285-pound title and helped Excelsior Springs place fourth in the team standings with 110 points. Wright was among six Excelsior Springs grapplers to place in the top three. Taking second were juniors Wyett Shipman and Hunter Scoma. Shipman was denied a title at 106 by a loss by decision in the championship match. Scoma, who received a first-round bye, went 2-1 to finish as the 175 runner-up. Kota Triplett, Cayden Clevenger and Lane Crowley each placed third. Triplett, a junior, picked up three wins en route to taking third at 165. He fell 1-0 in the semifinals. Clevenger, a sophomore, went 3-1 at 113, winning two matches by fall.
