Charges filed in Convenience Store shooting

The suspect who was apprehended by ESPD at the scene of a shooting outside an Excelsior Springs convenience store has now been charged.

Clay County Court on Thursday issued a warrant charging Dylan G. Townsend, 25, from Excelsior Springs with First Degree Assault, Armed Criminal Action and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Townsend's bond is set at $500,000.

Shooting at ES Gas Station leaves one hospitalized

A shooting at an Excelsior Springs gas station has left one person hospitalized in serious condition and one person in custody. The shooting took place Wednesday afternoon at the Quick Stop II Convenience Store at 1900 W. Jesse James Road.

According to Police Chief Clint Reno and Lt. Larry Tarrant, a 911 call came in at 3:50 p.m. reporting the shooting. Police close to the convenience store arrived quickly and found the assailant still on the scene. The male suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The Excelsior Springs Police Department reported the following incidents handled recently by the department.

TUESDAY, APRIL 28

9:33 p.m., 1700 block of W. Jesse James Road, Eddie C Cockrum II, WM, 44 was arrested for driving while intoxicated and open container. He was booked and released on his own recognizance with a court date.
