Annual Wine Festival sips into summer

The 17th Annual Wine Festival was deemed an “absolute success” by Carrie Karr, a member of the festival staff. After a walk down Lover’s Lane in East Valley Park, guests were able to sample 85 various wines from 20 Missouri wineries while listening to live music performed by the Brody Busters Band.

Events planned in celebration of Parks, Recreation Month

The Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation and Community Center will host events for youth and families in July to celebrate Parks and Recreation Month. Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation and Community Center’s Youth and Family Coordinator Kyria Hood explained that in 1985 Parks and Recreation Month was nationally recognized through the National Recreation and Parks Association.

Lumsden enters not guilty plea

An Excelsior Springs resident entered a plea of not guilty to multiple charges, including armed criminal action, during a criminal setting hearing earlier this week. Wyatt Dean Lumsden, 19, of Excelsior Springs, previously posted 10 percent of a $25,000 bond, on two felony charges including: unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

The Excelsior Springs Police Department reported the following arrests handled recently by the department. WEDNESDAY, MAY 17 At 12:51 p.m., Curtis Walters, 52, was arrested for civil commitment.

Wilderness Camp offers summer fun for all ages

Aside from spending time outdoors, summer camps allow children to connect with their peers and engage in recreational activities. “All are welcome at Wilderness Camp, and it is truly a place run by those who see value in it,” Director of Camp Ministries Bo Tucker said.
