Dear Editor, If the Excelsior Springs School Board gets its way, your property taxes will increase significantly again. As reported on December 10, 2024, the Excelsior Springs School Board “discussed a proposal to raise the district’s operating tax levy ceiling by $0.70, bringing it to $5.3089 per $100 of assessed valuation,” and “the resolution to place the question on the ballot was unanimously approved by board members present.”

Since the release of the highly anticipated live-action film Mufasa: The Lion King, social media has been abuzz with excitement and praise for its soundtrack. One song that stands out among the public is “I Always Wanted a Brother,” beautifully penned by the talented Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Christmas time can stir up a complex mix of emotions. For most people, the holiday season is synonymous with joy and celebration. They dive into the festive atmosphere, decorating their homes, sharing meals with loved ones and exchanging gifts. However, with adulthood came a feeling of dread for the holiday, to the point of me even loathing Christmas.

I’ve recently jumped into the world of podcasts during my daily commute and it’s been such an interesting experience. With so many podcasts out there – everything from true crime to celebrity cooking – it’s easy to miss a local gem that highlights the unique stories and voices from our communities, “Ray County Voices” (RCV), hosted by the Richmond News.

There is a noticeable generational difference in parenting styles, particularly regarding outdoor play and screen time. Many older adults express concern that millennials and younger generations are not permitting their children to engage in outdoor activities as freely as they did once upon a time.

As Thanksgiving has come and gone, I find myself experiencing a complex mix of emotions. At the heart of it all is a profound sense of gratitude.

Thanksgiving versus Christmas As the Halloween season wraps up and the chill of autumn settles in, excitement for my favorite holiday intensifies with each passing day.
