Orrick varsity 8-man football coach Matt O’Dell made a change for the Bearcats’ third straight week of offseason team camp sessions. This week, the varsity Bearcats were joined by members of Orrick’s junior high program.

Cool weather caps latest youth football camp

When Excelsior Springs varsity football coach Jake Danneman, his assistant coaches and players guided 100plus kiddos on the last day of a four-day youth camp, they had good weather on their side. “It’s been a rough one all week – been hot, and then last night, we got cut short because of a little bit of lightning in the area,” Danneman said on a cool July 17 evening under mostly cloudy skies at Tiger Stadium.

’Cats bring back old-drill to hone defensive skills

Orrick varsity 8-man football coach Matt O’Dell brought back an old drill Monday as he and his staff continued to prep the Bearcats for their 2025 season. To conclude the day’s activities, O’Dell had the Bearcats run through “the circle drill.” The drill works like this: A player lines up on defense.

HS coaches share drills, schemes with ESFA

Recently, Excelsior Springs varsity football coach Jake Danneman and some of his assistants shared some tips with some of their Excelsior Springs Football Association (ESFA) counterparts. Specifically, varsity staff members discussed drills they have their high schoolers practice that they thought might be useful to the ESFA coaches, who lead youth football teams for grades 2-6.
