Excelsior Springs was still seeking its first win this season in varsity boys basketball entering Wednesday night’s meeting with Oak Grove. The Tigers were 0-3 as they prepared to face the Panthers in the Husker Classic, hosted by Lafayette County of Higginsville.

Two Excelsior Springs High School alumni, now members of the University of Central Missouri (UCM) men’s wrestling team, picked up medals at the Kaufman Brand Bayly UCM Open. Damon Ashworth, a 2021 graduate, was the 184-pound elite champion at the Nov.

Excelsior Springs varsity boys basketball coach Ian Burch and his Tigers have reasons for optimism this season. “We are looking to improve on what we began building with the culture of our program last year,” Burch said.

It’s showtime for Excelsior Springs varsity girls basketball, according to coach JD Biermann. “We have goals of creating an intense and relentless style of basketball for our fans to see,” Biermann said.
