Royals eying division lead as September approaches

The American League (AL) Central Division title race is heating up as August ends – and Kansas City is in the thick of it.

As of Friday afternoon, the Royals were in second place and trailing division leader Cleveland by 1.5 games. But they were 5-5 through their last 10 games and had dropped two straight entering Friday night’s meeting with AL West leader Houston at Minute Maid Park.

Ganzer, Tigers seek to continue streaks

Excelsior Springs varsity boys soccer coach Zac Ganzer and a core group of returning Tigers are eyeing a fourth straight top-four finish at state competition. The Tigers, who finished 14-7 and placed fourth in the Class 2 state tournament in 2023, return 69% of their goal-scorers, including top scorer Jake Zapata.
