ES girls finish14th, boys 16th at Liberty

Excelsior Springs tested itself against several larger schools last week in varsity track and field. On March 22, the Excelsior Springs boys and girls teams competed at the Ron Ives Invitational. The 22-school event included some Class 5 schools from the Kansas City and St. Louis metro areas, such as Blue Springs, Blue Springs South, Lee’s Summit and Timberland. Excelsior Springs is a Class 4 program. The Excelsior Springs girls finished 14th with 18 points in the field of Class 5, 4 and 3 programs, and produced five top-eight performances – a second place, a third place, one sixth place and two eighth-place finishes. Sophomore Kinley Rogers was the runner-up, taking second in the javelin by throwing 35.39 meters. Pyper Layton took third in the high jump by clearing 1.48. The first-year high schooler also took eighth in the triple jump. In other girls results, senior Jaylenn Hudlemeyer took sixth in the triple jump, and the 1,600-meter relay team placed eighth.
