Bass now facing two murder charges

A Belton man pled not guilty to upgraded charges of first-degree murder after a Lawson man he allegedly shot succumbed to his injuries. Keith Bass II, 49, was originally charged and plead not guilty to four felony charges, including: one count of first-degree assault or attempt, serious physical injury or special victim; one count of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action.

ES School Board addresses concerned parents

The Excelsior Springs School Board is addressing concerned parents regarding school safety, bullying protocols, and other school-related business handling. Jake Smith, an area resident, addressed the board at its last meeting, stating concerns regarding an event when a student brought unloaded firearms to school.

The Mid-Continent Library in Excelsior Springs offers various programs for people of all ages, including online resources for children. Stephen Chalmers, branch manager, explained although tutors are not available in the library for students, the library does offer tutoring through their online platform, www.tutor.com.

Historic Preservation approves new COAs for area residents

The Historic Preservation Commission recently assembled to discuss homeowner requests regarding updates to their historic properties in Excelsior Springs. Local homeowner Scott Elder submitted a request for exterior improvements and the removal of a concrete patio located at 406 East Broadway Street.
