Let the Easter Egg Hunt Begin

After first joining the city of Excelsior Springs as a court administrator 14 years ago, Taran Svoboda is still finding new ways to serve the community she calls home. Svoboda, now the assistant director of administration for Excelsior Springs Parks, Recreation and Community Center, began her journey in 2011 after spending nine years with the Clay County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Kolin Kincaid has helped make Excelsior Springs a district and Class 2 state power in high school boys soccer in recent seasons. Soon, Kincaid hopes to help Missouri Valley College remain a national men’s soccer power.

The University of Missouri Extension (MUE) is encouraging women with an interest in agriculture to attend the 23rd Women Landowners Ag Conference, which will be held on April 25 at La Bella Vineyards and Winery in Wellington.

Today marks Missouri Arbor Day and the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) encourages everyone to recognize the importance of Missouri’s trees and forests. The organization invites citizens to celebrate Arbor Day throughout April by planting native trees and practicing proper tree care.

Three candidates have filed for two available seats on the Orrick Board of Aldermen in the upcoming April 8 municipal election. The candidates are Brooke Edney, Cindy Epperson and James Smith.

The Excelsior Springs School District has officially decided to extend the school year. After careful consideration and in response to several weather-related closures that affected the school calendar earlier in the year, the district has decided to conclude the school year on May 22, rather than May 20 as originally planned.
