SMITHVILLE – Districts are a part of the high school sports season when some teams move on and others go home. In softball, Excelsior Springs moved on for one game of the Class 4 District 8 Tournament.

NEW BLOOMFIELD – Often, when a high school athlete returns to a state tournament, the goal is to place better than the previous year. Such was the case for Excelsior Springs senior Hope Chappel.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers are trying to work through a losing streak in varsity volleyball. Through Tuesday, Excelsior Springs had lost seven straight matches – sixth of them against opponents in the loaded Missouri River Valley Conference West Division.
