Excelsior Springs varsity girls basketball coach JD Biermann and his Tigers might be playing for a district title this weekend. At press time, the girls were scheduled to face Kansas City Central Thursday night in the Class 4 District 14 Tournament semifinals at Excelsior Springs, with the victor advancing to the championship game, set for 5 p.m.

Vehicle trouble kindles longing for train travel

to PRO High heat, drop kicks, random observations and points that amuse are all part of the wide, wide world of sports at the community and national levels. The Greater Kansas City area needs more affordable mass transportation options, especially in its smaller towns and counties.

ESHS sends quintet to state

As of this writing, a second state high school title in three seasons was in reach for Cooper Collins, even if an undefeated season no longer was. Collins, a two-time state medalist and the 2023 Class 2 113-pound state champion, represented Excelsior Springs this week at the Class 2 boys state tournament.

Tigers go west for district tourney

Unlike their girls counterparts, the Excelsior Springs boys will hit the road to start the basketball postseason. The Tigers, who were 0-22 entering Wednesday’s regular-season road meeting with Oak Grove, will open Class 4 District 15 Tournament play at 7 p.m.
