Cooley Lake history inspires contemporary art show

Body EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The landscape of a shallow oxbow lake about 8 miles south of Excelsior Springs has inspired the work of area artists and photographers in recent years. “They may have been unaware of its significance in the earliest days of Clay County.

THIS PAINTING, reminiscent of French impressionist Claude Monet’s work with water lilies, but also suggesting photographic realism, is an inspired example of Cooley Lake-inspired art.

Student-athletes at ESHS get breather before fall sports begin

Body EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – This week, the athletic facilities at Excelsior Springs High School are unoccupied. As mandated by the Missouri State High School Activities Association, the first week of August is the dead week before fall sports practices begin.
