On Friday, May 6, 2022, Sonja Joan Manley (Dougherty), loving wife and mother of four, passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by family at the age of 82.  

On Dec. 28, 1939, Sonja was born to John and Goldie Dougherty in Burchard, NE. She met her husband of almost 65 years, Sherman Manley, and they married on April 15, 1958. Together they raised four children: Kent, Kurt, Kathy and Korey.

Velma Frances Clancy, 93, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri passed away April 28, 2022 at Valley Manor. Visitation will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, May 13, 2022 at Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs with a graveside service at Richmond Memorial Gardens to follow. Mrs. Clancy was born on March 9, 1929 in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Velma very much enjoyed spending time with her family, watching old westerns, listening to old country music, and in her younger days she loved dancing.

Sylvia Christeen (Poe) Boston, 86, of Excelsior Springs, MO., passed away May 2nd, 2022 at the Excelsior Springs Hospital. Sylvia was born July 23rd, 1935 to Franklin and Frances Poe in Grant City, MO. 
 
Her greatest joys were her family and her friends. She lived that devotion every day. She cherished each relationship and brightened our lives with her sense of adventure, fast wit, and beautiful spirit. Her life was of compassion, and love. She loved us dearly as we loved her. How blessed we are to call her Mother, Grandma and Friend.

City seeks more road maintenance money

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The city could receive up to $57,878 more to help with road projects, thanks to an agreement between Excelsior Springs and the Mid-America Regional Council. Approved April 18 by the City Council at the Hall of Waters, the agreement makes the city a participant in the Missouri Preventive Maintenance Program, overseen by MARC.

Hospital closes COVID clinic

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Excelsior Springs Hospital drive-through COVID clinic closed Sunday. During an April 15 work session at the Hall of Waters, hospital CEO Kristen DeHart told city leaders the clinic would close, citing a decrease in COVID cases.
