My baby is growing up

As the new school year draws near, my heart is filled with a mix of emotions. I feel a sense of melancholy at the thought of my daughter, Aurora, stepping out into the world on her own, but I am also bursting with pride at the confident little girl she has become.

Ganzer, Tigers seek to continue streaks

Excelsior Springs varsity boys soccer coach Zac Ganzer and a core group of returning Tigers are eyeing a fourth straight top-four finish at state competition. The Tigers, who finished 14-7 and placed fourth in the Class 2 state tournament in 2023, return 69% of their goal-scorers, including top scorer Jake Zapata.

Royals cling to final AL playoff spot

Kansas City remains in the thick of the American League (AL) playoff race, despite going 4-6 in its last 10 games.

The Royals were 66-55 and held the position of the final wild card spot entering this weekend’s three-game interleague road series with Cincinnati. Their 4-6 stretch began with a split of the final two games of a road series with Detroit.

Chiefs begin preparations for threepeat run

With the regular season less than three weeks away, Kansas City is prepping to do something only one other NFL franchise has done: win three straight league titles.

The Chiefs have won back-to-back league titles, rallying to defeat Philadelphia in Super Bowl LVII, and then rallying and defeating San Francisco in overtime in Super Bowl LVIII. A victory in Super Bowl LIX, scheduled for February 2025 in New Orleans would put them in the company of Green Bay.

Parson issues executive order

Governor Mike Parson has announced the issuance of an order prohibiting the sale of food containing psychoactive cannabis compounds in Missouri unless it comes from an “approved source.” Additionally, the order prohibits the sale of psychoactive cannabis products at retail establishments holding a liquor license.

Supreme Court seeks child support feedback

The Family Court Committee of the Supreme Court of Missouri is reaching out to the public and legal professionals to gather input as part of its mandatory review of the child support guidelines. This review will involve a thorough examination of the underlying assumptions, information and methodology used in the current guidelines.
