Families in Excelsior Springs will soon have another opportunity to participate in the Strengthening Families 10-14 Program as Substance Abuse Free Environments (SAFE) relaunches the evidence-based initiative designed to strengthen family relationships while addressing youth substance use prevention.

Council delays marijuana drive-through proposal

Excelsior Springs City Council members recently tabled a zoning amendment, which would have allowed drive-through services at marijuana dispensaries. The proposal drew public comment during the visitors’ portion of the meeting, where two speakers urged council members not to move forward with the amendment.

Serving students beyond the shelves

For many students at Lewis Elementary, the library serves not only as a place to borrow books but also as a space for additional support with math and reading, exploring new stories and gaining encouragement throughout the school day. Lewis Elementary Library Assistant Sarah Frost works across classrooms and grade levels, balancing book checkouts with intervention i nstruction and stepping in wherever support is needed.

Judge sets three-day trial in annexation case

The legal showdown over which city controls contested land west of Excelsior Springs is advancing to trial after a Clay County judge ordered a three-day bench proceeding. The case centers on competing annexation measures approved by voters in Excelsior Springs and Mosby in November 2025 that seek to incorporate overlapping portions of unincorporated Clay County land west of the city limits, primarily along Cameron Road and Rhodus Road.
