ES Job Corps hosts career, resource fair

Excelsior Springs Job Corps Center (ESJCC) hosted several guests during a Career and Resource Fair on June 22. Students and employees at the ESJCC are trained in a trade of their choice ranging from construction to medical or service trades, and even railroad work through the Transportation Communications Union. This federally- funded program serves Missouri youth ages from 16 to 24, offering 11 trades. When students or employees complete this free program, they are certified in their field and placed in a job with an area employer.

Plans in place for new Lewis Elementary school

A site plan for the new Lewis Elementary School was met with approval from Excelsior Springs Planning and Zoning Commission during a recent meeting. Presented by the Excelsior Springs School District, the site plan includes the latest design layout, featuring a brick, stucco exterior and architectural lines similar to the existing building, while incorporating a new monument with an electronic sign, as well as better parking and traffic flow for the surrounding area of the building.

Naval ROTC Cadets join Waterfest fun

Ready in uniform, Excelsior Springs Job Corps Center (ESJCC) participated in the Annual Waterfest Parade in downtown Excelsior Springs. This was the first time since COVID that the center Naval ROTC Cadets have been available to participate in the parade.

Charles R. Ketron, 72, passed away June 15, 2023, at Valley Manor Nursing Home and Rehab in Excelsior Springs.
Charles R. Ketron, 72, passed away June 15, 2023, at Valley Manor Nursing Home and Rehab in Excelsior Springs. Services will be held with a 10 a.m. visitation, followed by a Masonic service at 11, Aug. 12 at the United Methodist Church, Excelsior Springs. Military honors will follow the Christian service. Mr. Ketron was born Sept. 27, 1950, in Brookfield. Before taking ill, Charlie was an U.S. Army veteran, serving in Vietnam as a medic; was a member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, McDonald Lodge No.

Danner commits to Park U

Mason Danner has chosen to continue his education – and his baseball career. Danner, who graduated this spring from Excelsior Springs High School, has committed to study at and play for Park University, a Parkville-based NAIA school.

Area youth hone baseball skills with traveling team

Many high school, college and pro sports coaches would probably agree that the foundation for sports at those levels of competition is created in youth athletics. The Arsenals, an 11-and-under baseball team consisting primarily of Excelsior Springs kids, is working to prepare athletes for those levels.
