The Excelsior Springs Substance Abuse-Free Environment (SAFE) coalition has come a long way. SAFE, a community coalition that works toward preventing youth substance abuse, began when Tri-County, now Beacon Mental Health, began community coalitions 30 years ago.

Ameren reminds public of gas safety

As the cold air settles into the region and winter is underway, Ameren Missouri has released safety tips to keep people safe if they suspect a natural gas leak. “Many homeowners and renters are turning on their natural gas furnaces as the temperatures continue to drop,” said Pam Harrison, director of gas operations at Ameren Missouri.

ES girls wrestling program boasts record turnout

Excelsior Springs girls wrestling coach Scott Schwab probably won’t have to worry about having open weight classes this season. Schwab and his staff are working with 22 athletes – the largest turnout in girls program history.

Although winter isn’t set to begin until Dec. 21, the air is already filled with the crisp change of colder weather. As the days get shorter and the night air sends a chill through the atmosphere, I know as a parent that it’s time to close the door and spend most of my time indoors.
