Clay County deputies receive Special Commendation Award

During last year’s NFL Draft in Kansas City, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) and Homeland Security Investigations Kansas City (HIS-KC) worked together to arrest three men seeking to engage in sexual activity with children. Council agrees to implement license plate recognition camera system

The Excelsior Springs City Council agreed to implement a new license plate recognition camera system citywide as well as handle other city businesses at a routine meeting. The new automated license plate readers (ALRP), according to Police Chief Gregory Dull, serve a purpose between criminal activity and motor vehicles because license plates offer the police department objective evidence that can be used to gather actionable leads.

Tigers take fourth at state

For the third straight season, Excelsior Springs finished in the top four of the Class 2 state boys soccer tournament. Unlike the 2021 and 2022 seasons, however, the Tigers did not finish third.

Opening weekend deer harvest peaks near five-year average

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) recently released preliminary data calculated that 90,334 deer were harvested during the Nov. 11 and 12 opening firearms deer hunting season. “With the cool mornings and comfortable afternoons, it would have been hard to ask for more pleasant conditions to be deer hunting this past weekend,” said MDC Cervid Program Supervisor Jason Isabelle.

What’s to be grateful for anyway?

Lately, things have been a bit unsteady, crazy, maybe even a little stressful. These feelings usually come close to the holiday season and sometimes even on the day itself. For instance, last Christmas, our water pipe busted in the front yard while simultaneously having the furnace go out. It can be hard to be grateful for the things in your life when you’re stuck warming up the living room with a space heater and no running water on Christmas morning.
